As SAL members and regular readers know, Avis and I had a happy dance for the last SAL update with our “Cirque des Triangles”. A lovely monochrome design which we both made totally our own through choice of fabric and thread colours. Way before we came to the end of that project, we had already been discussing what our next SAL project would be.
It just so happens that the two of us did a little spending in the Christmas sales on sewandso, last year, among other things, both buying the following kit.
“Getting Ready”, a kit by Design Works, adapted from the artwork of South African artist, Ronald West. We both fell in love with the very quirky style, not to mention that the price, in the sales, was simply too good to miss.
Anyway . . . this is what we’ll both be working on over the coming months. However, while we are going to try and pace ourselves, so we keep up roughly the same stitching speed, we are going to tackle it each in our own way.
My way is rather erratic. I’ve decided to start top left, so my first stage looks like this.

Wow – that’s an impressive start you’ve made there Claire. Between you and Helen (Stitching Granny) you’re really making my fingers itch to do some cross-stitching, I haven’t done any in a few months but I have a UFO I might have to dig out of hibernation………
It’ll be interesting to see how your different methods line up when it’s time to show progress. You’ve been stitching together so long I bet you’ll end up achieving the same…
I suspect that by the time we’re half way through, our pièces will look fairly identical. I just can’t make myself stitch in neat blocks, like Avis, and have to follow a symbol wherever it goes lol.
To each her own. I couldn’t work that way either!

I think it is fun that you two work on the same projects together. Now after looking at the photo of the finished project that you posted I can tell what the two guys are hold on their heads lol! Great progress so far!
Yes we reckon this can be done in 12 parts, so hopefully we’ll both be able to keep up the pace. If not, we’ll slow down and wait for the other one to catch up.
How fun! It will be interesting to see you both work on the same project from different points. It does seem, from the other projects, that you two stitch at the same rate of speed. I wasn’t sure if that was always planned or it just happened 🙂 Such a quirky design indeed! Will the cursive menu items be in back-stitches?
whenever we stitched the same design, we always consulted beforehand to make sure we stitched the same segment each time. For this one, we’ve sort of worked out it can be done in 12 stages, but we’ll each be deciding on which part to stitch so while we won’t be stitching the same parts, we hope to finish at the same time.

lol woman on the tray is actually a character who appears in all of Ron West’s artwork. Avis and I both have a few more of his designs in xstitch kit form, so this probably won’t be the only one we stitch.

I was just saying I wanted to see these framed over on avis’ page. the mats you chose gave it a very classic look. I think they are perfect. c’ant wait to see the new one come together with the different ways of doing it.
thank you ^^ I bought the frames a while ago but had to wait for the mounts to be cut to order. I’m so pleased with how they look, and to have them both on my wall in my sewing room. As for the new project . . . it’s going to be very stitch intensive but luckily, it’s on white 14 count so it’ll be very easy on the eyes.
It’s so fun that you and Avis are stitching the same projects! Starting in the left hand upper corner is where I most often start my work as well. Watching your progress on this project will be so fun!
Firstly Congratulations on your recent finish (I’m late I know but I missed last times Sal). Looking back I also love your very “tweet” baby quilt.
I was unsure about this when I saw it on Avis’s blog but now I see the picture more clearly I must admit its quite amusing. I will look forward to see you both working on different bits this time, even if the end result will be the same.

Okay, I’m way behind the times apparently. I’m going to have to go back and have a look at your finish for the last SAL. I’ve been wanting to see those two done! Meanwhile, this looks like another fun piece for you two to stitch, completely different but fun. 🙂
